Chinese Artist Yue Minjun Opens Show in Paris

April 21st, 2013

top chinese artist Contemporary Beijing artist Yue Minjun is opening a new exhibit in Paris today (Wednesday, Nov 14), his first major European one.

[Yue Minjun, Chinese Artist ]:
“The idea of the exhibition is to show the French public what a Chinese artist thinks about life.”

Yue is among the most famous contemporary Chinese artists, alongside names such as Ai Weiwei and Liu Xiaobo. However his art is not overtly political.

His style is called Cynical Realism, a movement that came out of China after the Tiananmen Square massacre. His most famous piece, “The Execution” is often thought to be a commentary on the massacre.

However he says his paintings express a common human emotion or experience, more philosophical than political.

[Yue Minjun, Chinese Artist]:
“I tried to express some painful ideas, some tragic ideas and also something like a comedy, something happy.”

In an interview with the Financial Times he said that capitalism has become the new God, replacing people’s belief in the divine. He says he hopes his work will inspire reflection, and show a different perspective.

The artists’ signature use of laughing faces, self-portraits, and repetition has made his work internationally renowned. “The Execution” was sold at a London auction house for over $4.5 million dollars in 2007.

The exhibition features 40 works from private and public collections around the world. Some of the paintings have never before been seen by the public.

How can I become a celebrity in Korea?

April 19th, 2013

I’m a Chinese, living in Malaysia. Trying to learn Korean language. i have passion in singing, dancing and acting, which I would really dream to pursue it in Korea and become a celebrity like SNSD etc. I’m really serious about all these as a career. Problem is I really don’t know where to begin. Help? :(

I guess i have a solution to your problem…
Look to become a kpop idol or a celebrity..your life have to be a struggling one…btw to start it/ or say the beginning of it all….
Try auditioning for these major entertainments like
SM Entertainment
YG Entertainment
JYP Entertainment
Cube Entertainment
these are some major entertainments in korea…
If you get in any of these entertainments then you will become a trainee and train there for approx 3 years and they’ll debut you when you’re ready….
SM Ent: here they have different types of auditioning system….weekly auditions, email auditions, mail post auditions , youth star auditions and Global auditions ( global is only once a year)….apply for these auditions…
And you want to become like SNSD right???…So here the road to stardom…SM Ent..Even SNSD are from SM Ent…
They trained for at least 5 years for their perfectness….oh..n btw Jessica from SNSD trained for 7 years….
SM Debuted F(x)…Shinee…Girls Generation(SNSD)…SuJu…TVXQ..and the most famous BoA….SM Ent is known for its best producing artists and is in the top and its the richest and the greatest company in all Korea…!!!!
YG they are the second greatest next to SM….they debuted artists such as 2ne1…BigBang..Gummy…and woah…why did i forget…PSY Kangnam Style…waaahhh…!!!
They are known for their rapping and uniqueness….
JYP Ent: well they are equal to YG….here they debuted Miss A….2pm…2 Am….Wonder Girls….etc…!!!
They are known for their dancing skills….

Heh…dont worry …try your level best to get into one of these companies and waallaaa….your dream come true.!!
Btw be ready to face all the challenges and struggles you have to face to get to the top…no offence but all the trainees here are nothing we can compare with…So we have to be struggling and practice alot and train alot to face the top and get known…
And since youre not a korean and youre learning korean…its a better chance…
But if youre really serious then i suggest you audition for SM Ent…because here its like whatever you want and whatever youve struggled for becomes no waste….
Even in YG and JYP…but SM’s the greatest and the best so….
Btw the easiest to get in is YG…n to enter JYP you have to be 80% good in dancing and the rest singing…and okay with appearance..
In YG you have to be 80% talent and 20% appearance…
SM is 80% appearance and 20% talent…and this is the reason why SM’s artist are like dolls and wow in appearance…
Ahhh…that was long …btw i guess you wanna know more but its sooo long now…so um if you are interested then…i have no problem with helping you so you can email me and ill tell you more about it…
My email:
So…feel free to ask me aything you want to know about kpop….
I hope i helped…^_^*

chinese new year 2013 sand painting

James Bond film Skyfall has been named outstanding British film at this year’s Baftas.

The movie beat Anna Karenina, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Les Miserables and Seven Psychopaths to win the honour.

Skyfall also received the award for best original music.

Anne Hathaway was named best supporting actress for her role in Les Miserables, while Christoph Waltz won best supporting actor for Django Unchained.

Accepting the award on stage, director Sam Mendes said: “We all had high expectations for this film and this is really the icing on the cake.”

Backstage, Mendes said the fact that Skyfall star Daniel Craig was not nominated for an award was “the curse of Bond”.

“It was an incredible performance but because Bond is the spine of the movie… You take it for granted.”

An emotional Hathaway said she was “so honoured” to receive her award and paid tribute to her fellow cast members and director Tom Hooper.

Waltz also praised his director, Quentin Tarantino – who won an award himself for best original screenplay for Django Unchained – calling him a “silver-penned devil”.

Backstage, the actor said winning the prize had “knocked the wind out of me”.

Les Miserables was an early winner at the awards held at London’s Royal Opera House.

Christoph Waltz picked up the award for best supporting actor for Django Unchained
The musical adaptation – which went into the ceremony with nine nominations – received awards for best sound and best make-up and hair ahead of Hathaway’s award.

It also collected the prize for production design.

Ang Lee’s Life of Pi also picked up two early awards for cinematography and special visual effects.

Joe Wright’s adaptation of Anna Karenina came away with the award for best costume design, while Disney Pixar film Brave was named best animation.

David O Russell won the award for best adapted screenplay for Silver Linings Playbook, which he also directed.

Accepting the award on stage, Russell said: “This film is about emotions and this is for every family that face those emotions every day.”

Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence are up for best actor and actress for their roles in the film.

Speaking on the red carpet ahead of the ceremony, Lawrence praised Russell for his work on the film, calling him her “saviour and captain”.

“Anytime you’re doing a movie with him it’s a fun challenge and exciting,” she told BBC News. “He brings so much passion it never feels difficult or exhausting.”

Lawrence will battle it out with Zero Dark Thirty’s Jessica Chastain, Rust and Bone’s Marion Cotillard, Hitchock’s Dame Helen Mirren and Amour star Emmanuelle Riva.

Director Sir Alan Parker, whose works include The Commitments and Bugsy Malone, will be honoured with a British Academy Fellowship.

The award, the highest accolade the Academy can bestow, was given to Martin Scorsese last year.

There will also be an honour for Channel 4 film boss Tessa Ross, who will receive a lifetime achievement award.

The ceremony itself will be broadcast with a two-hour delay on BBC One and BBC One HD.
