The Artist’s Uggie Cements Paws at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre

top chinese artist Uggie, best known as Jack from the Oscar-winning film “The Artist”, became the first canine to have his paws cemented outside of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

The star dog officially retired from showbiz yesterday with a ceremony that connected him to Tom Hanks, Elizabeth Taylor, and others of Hollywood royalty.

Uggie rose to prominence after his turn in “The Artist”.

He played a memorable role as Jean Dujardin’s companion in the silent film.

The Artist, which comes out on Blu-Ray and DVDs today, won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Uggie’s trainer, Omar Von Muller, noted how things have changed since “The Artist” was released.

“This has been a rush. This has been incredible. All the success in Uggie, everybody says that I’m a great trainer, I don’t think so; he’s just a great dog.”

Muller also urged people to adopt, noting that his star student was adopted.

Uggie’s film credits also include playing Queenie in last year’s “Water for Elephants”.
Fellow canine celebrities Lassie and Rin Tin Tin lent their star power to the occasion, appearing alongside the 10-year-old Jack Russell Terrier.

The councilman declared yesterday “Uggie Day” in Los Angeles.

After the ceremony, Uggie signed his “pawtograph” on Blu-ray copies of “The Artist” for 50 lucky fans.

Jay Chou (born January 18, 1979) is a Taiwanese musician, singer, music and Film producer, actor and director who has won the World Music Award four times. He is well-known for composing all his own songs and songs for other singers. In 1998 he was discovered in a talent contest where he displayed his piano and song-writing skills. Over the next two years, he was hired to compose for popular Chinese singers. Although he was trained in classical music, Chou combines Chinese and Western music styles to produce songs that fuse R&B, rock and pop genres, covering issues such as domestic violence, war, and urbanization.

From the launch of his music career in 2000, Jay Chou has won more than 350 singer, singer-songwriter, and producer awards in Asia.[10] The highly coveted Golden Melody Awards in Taiwan[j] awarded “Best Album” for his debut CD Jay (2000) in 2001, and five awards (including “Best Album”, “Best Composer”, and “Best Producer”) in the following year for the album Fantasy (2001). However, failure to win “Best Album” for three consecutive years has left him disheartened with award ceremonies. Although he continues to win more than 20 awards per year from various organizations in Asia, Chou has stated he will rely more on album sales as an indicator of his music’s quality and popularity.[95] In 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008, he was awarded Best-Selling Artist in China by World Music Awards for the albums Common Jasmin Orange, Still Fantasy and On the Run
